made the switch to OpenSuse Tumbleweed

OpenSuse 12.1 is available as a rolling release now. It is called Tumbleweed. Essentially a set of repositories that holds ALL stable packages available for OpenSuse. It is not "bleeding edge" like "Factory", but rather a constantly upgrading stable release.
more here: Tumbleweed
So far so good: everything works great, upgraded my laptop from 11.4 KDE4 using the tumbleweed repositories to Tumbleweed.
Version shown is now 12.1 (current) and the kernel is now 3.1.x

Check out the new website of rocknrollparanormal.org to see what Dana has been up to this summer. She has joined a group of ghost hunters that conduct investigations in historical, private, and business areas. If you have any issues in your home or business that you suspect may be of paranormal activity please send them an email for an evaluation. If you are curious about the different types of paranormal activity and want to view clips of what real life investigations look like please visit the website. All investigations are free of cost and completely confidential. All locations are considered, however, all members are working full time and need to schedule investigations around their jobs.

my server is 10 years old

wow, i just realized that my little server is 10 years old, actually it has a 1999 BIOS. I bought it used and it has been running non-stop since i set it up. Running Redhat clones from day 1. Started out as "whitebox linux" and eventually CentOS 3, now CentOS 4. Not bad for a $200 purchase some 5-6 years ago. Quad Xeon, 512mb RAM, RAID 5, 9Gig SCSIs, a beast really :)
Hope it has many more months as my webserver, mailserver, etc

KDE 4.4.00 is out

i am still running KDE Desktop "Factory". I have been running KDE 4.4.00 for a little while on my trusty old IBM thinkpad, T30. Performance is good, it looks great and everything works great, too. Recently installed Google Chrome for Linux. (Beta). Still, it works quite good, especially when you use Google related stuff like gmail, and youtube. I am still missing some features from my favorite browser of many years (Opera). Viewing image galleries using Opera is just far superior than with any other browser. Hitting the space bar will display the next image full screen. I have yet to find a browser that can do that. Overall, OpenSuse, KDE 4.4, have proven to be quite awesome even for an old laptop like my T30, now 7 years old!
i say: "try out OpenSuse and KDE4"

KDE 4.3.0 has arrived

I have been running KDE4 on OpenSuse for a couple of months now. Always running "Factory". This means bleeding edge, quite stable, updates daily if you want ( i do).
KDE 4.2 has been great, now i am running 4.3.0. Performance is great on my Thinkpad (t30). Kopete can now do facebook protocol. I have been using it for Yahoo Messenger and MSN messenger. KDE4 network manager looks so much nicer than the previous version.

All parts should go together without forcing. You must remember that the
parts you are reassembling were disassembled by you. Therefore, if you
can't get them together again, there must be a reason. By all means, do not
use a hammer.
